Atomic Toys

Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab

The Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab, a children's educational set from the early 1950s... complete with four types of uranium ore! I wish I had this when I was younger. It is true: they don't make them liked they used to!

My favorite booth at GDC

Yesterday, I spent a few hours at the 2009 Game Developers Conference. While wandering around the Expo hall, I noticed the following:

Gillette Fusion Gamer GDC Booth

(Apologies for the quality - cell phone camera.)

Yes, that's right, the Gillette Fusion Gamer Razor had its own booth at GDC. Very attractive booth babes were inviting developers to try the razor at the booth. And people were doing it too! Yes, they were putting on the gel and shaving at a booth in a convention hall.

This truly IS the best a man can get. Now if they only made more of those terrible Tiger Woods/Roger Federer/Derek Jeter/Thierry Henry commercials.

I Hate Marmaduke

Marmaduke

"LOL THIS DOG IS XBOXHUGE!"

Is it me or does every Marmaduke comic have the same punchline? I hate Marmaduke.

For a group that cares about everything else, like trees, hippies, marijuana, and civil rights, UC Berkeley's student population doesn't really seem to care much about its sports.

The basic idea of the superhuman is a very malleable one – you can do ‘realistic' superhero stories like say Watchmen, which takes a hard-nosed look at how these creatures might alter the social and political landscape of our own world, or you can – as I prefer to do – position them as archetypes that allow us to talk about the world using the language of symbolism and allegory. There have been ‘realistic' superhero stories, ‘surreal' superhero stories, superhero westerns, superhero war stories, superhero detective stories, superhero horror stories, superhero romances etc.

All-Star Superman writer Grant Morrison in Scottish outlet The Big Issue. Morrison, by all accounts, makes Superman interesting and readable, which is no easy feat in itself!
