American-Style Animation Overview

What surprised and impressed me the most about Comic-Con was the recognition of quality animated material. These days, the only cartoons I'll watch religiously are Simpsons, Futurama, Invader Zim, South Park, and most of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Of them, at least one representative from each show (except South Park) was present; Matt Groening counts double for Simpsons and Futurama, and totally unexpectedly I found Richard Horvitz (voice of Zim, Invader Zim), Rosearik "Rikki" Simons (voice of Gir, Invader Zim), and a man I revere as holy, Jhonen Vasquez (creator, Invader Zim). I have all their autographs, which I hope unleashes some ultimate power were I to combine them together. So from an entire day of autographs, unseen episodes, and panels, I am spending the rest of the week recovering from excitement-related heart injuries. Also, my back hurts from carrying some truly excellent free stuff in my backpack.

In addition to animation panels, I also attended a few independent comics panels. I discovered that out of all the people working in animation, anime/manga, mainstream comics, and independent comics, the most interesting people to listen to were certainly, by far, the animation and independent comic books panelists. I will inundate you with details and anecdotes now in some of the following sections. PREPARE TO BE INUNDATED!!! OMG LOL!!!!!
